About Yi
Dr. Guo is Professor, Associate Chair for Data Science, and Division Chief (Preeminent Scholar) of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Florida. He also serves as the Chief Data Scientist and Director of the Cancer Informatics Shared Resource for the UF Health Cancer Institute, Co-Director of the UF CTSI Biomedical Informatics Program, as well as the Associate Director of the Office of Data Science Research for the OneFlorida+ Clinical Research Network.
Dr. Guo has a multidisciplinary background in the analysis of real-world data, including electronic health records (EHRs) and administrative claims, with expertise spanning randomized and observational study design, statistical and machine learning methods, causal inference, and target trial emulation. His work is unified by an overarching research focus on generating rigorous, AI-enabled real-world evidence to support healthcare decision-making for disease prevention, treatment, and population health management. Within this theme, his research centers on three core methodological areas: (1) EHR-based phenotyping and AI-driven risk prediction, focused on identifying clinical subpopulations and individuals at elevated risk using machine learning methods; (2) causal modeling and target trial emulation, aimed at estimating treatment effects and elucidating causal relationships from real-world clinical data; and (3) trustworthy clinical AI using real-world data, with emphasis on model evaluation, transportability across health systems, bias and confounding assessment, and the explicit alignment of predictive modeling with causal inference for clinical and policy decision-making.
