Trooper Sanders is president of the State AI Safety Roundtable, a nonprofit organization working to support and strengthen the power and influence of states in AI safety and good governance. He also serves on a number of AI-connected boards and advisory committees including: the American Arbitration Association board of directors, the International Bar Association’s AI Task Force, the Partnership on AI’s Enterprise AI Steering Committee, and Carnegie Mellon’s Block Center for Technology and Society advisory board. Previously, Trooper served a term on the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee, a federal advisory committee created by Congress to advise the President and administration on artificial intelligence (AI) and American competitiveness and progress, where he co-chaired the workforce and opportunity working group. He was CEO of the former Benefits Data Trust. During the Obama administration, Trooper was a policy advisor to first lady Michelle Obama where he led military family policy efforts including the creation of the Joining Forces initiative. He also served as former President Clinton’s post-presidential domestic policy advisor and a White House policy advisor to Vice President Al Gore and Tipper Gore. He is a graduate of the University of London, London School of Economics, and University of Michigan.
