About Shafik
Shafik Quoraishee is Senior Games Engineer at the New York Times, who works on the Mobile games platform that includes titles such as Wordle, Connections, Strands, and the New York Times Crossword. He has also worked on the New York Times Mobile Subscription Platform as well. Shafik possess multiple years of Mobile development experience and a background in AI/ML Computer Vision research, which from which he applies his skills in various capacities at the Times. He also teaches AI/ML fundmentals in various educational programs such as Brainstation.
Prior to the New York Times, Shafik had worked and the NBA (National Basketball Association) on the NBA's NextGen Streaming platform, and helped build and Architect the Android TV and FireTV platform applications to bring live platback to NBA fans accross the world.
Prior to the NBA, Shafik worked in large scale commercial institutions such Business Insider where he not only developed Data Infrastructure and Pipelining to support the ingestion, sanitization, storage ,and analytics of huge amounts of commerce and revenue data, but he also worked on anomaly detection and the integration Time Series and forecasting to help isolate peculiar traffic and trends, and predict new seasonal trends in the data.
Shafik started his career at ARDEC (Armaments Research and Development Center), a research division of the DoD, working on signal processing algorithms and techniques to help isolate physical phenomena and events in complex noise environments. From there his Academic and research skills were honed into helping him build some of the tools and techniques he works on in the current day.
