SANTIAGO ONTAÑÓN ALVAREZ Chief Information Officer, Grupo Coppel Originally from Mexico City, Santiago Ontañón holds a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, graduating with honors and the prestigious Gabino Barreda medal from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He also holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. His most recent position before Coppel, was Executive Director of Transformation at Seguros Monterrey New York Life. Santiago joined Seguros Monterrey New York Life in May 2016 as the Director of Information Technology. Prior to that, he held sales roles in leading software companies (Microsoft, Oracle, and Computer Associates), where he had the opportunity to serve clients from various industries and sizes. Throughout his professional career, Santiago has gained significant experience in national and international companies, assuming various functional responsibilities across a range of industries, including Transportation (Mexicana de Aviación and the Mexican Postal Service), Telecommunications (Televisa and Satmex), technology startups (Tachyon), and consulting (McKinsey & Co.). Santiago Ontañón joined Grupo Coppel in July 2021 as the Corporate Director of Business Systems and Digital Transformation, where he was responsible for system solution development for the business and all digital aspects for Grupo Coppel's Retail and Financial Services divisions. The main objective of this role is to build upon and enhance existing strengths to create, implement, and execute new business models supported by technology, driving digital growth with efficiency and effectiveness while fostering talent development, thus making the company more competitive each day. In November 2023, Santiago was appointed Corporate Technology Director for Grupo Coppel, consolidating all IT departments under one leadership.
