About Mostafa
Dr. Mostafa Namian, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Construction Management at East Carolina University, where he teaches and conducts research at the intersection of construction safety, workforce development, and artificial intelligence (AI).
His work focuses on improving safety performance, training effectiveness, and decision-making in the construction industry through practical, research-based, and technology-driven solutions. Dr. Namian has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in construction safety, ethics, and artificial intelligence in construction. He developed and launched one of the first applications-focused graduate courses on AI in Construction (sponsored by NVIDIA), designed to help construction students and professionals understand and use AI tools without requiring advanced coding skills.
His research and applied projects include AI-supported safety training, safety return-on-investment decision tools, construction workforce development, hazard recognition, safety communication, and the adoption of emerging technologies in construction. He has led and contributed to federally and non-federally funded projects involving safety training, AI-based safety decision support, and technology transfer for transportation and construction organizations.
Dr. Namian’s recent work emphasizes the practical use of AI in construction, including AI copilots for safety investment decisions, AI tools for disaster reimbursement and infrastructure decision-making, and educational models that prepare construction managers to work effectively with intelligent systems. His broader mission is to help the construction industry adopt innovation in a way that is useful, trusted, and grounded in real-world problems.
