About Megs

Megs Shah is a pioneer in trauma-informed AI. As founder and CEO of The Parasol Cooperative and architect of Ruth AI, she built the world's first chatbot designed to address human pain at scale, a technology now operating across 170 countries and powering national hotlines serving survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and crisis.

At Ai4 2025, Geoffrey Hinton called for AI with "maternal instincts", systems that genuinely care about humans. "We need AI mothers rather than AI assistants," he said. "An assistant is someone you can fire. You can't fire your mother." By then, Megs had already built it.

Not from theory, but from lived experience: healing from child sexual abuse, nearly ending her own life at 18, parenting a son without passing on her trauma, and two decades building, shipping, and managing technology products and services, including AI, across highly regulated industries—biotech (CSL), pharma (Bristol-Myers Squibb), and consulting at Accenture serving federal and Fortune 500 clients. This combination of deep technical expertise and personal transformation is what makes Ruth different: AI built by someone who understands both the technology and the human beings it serves.

In December 2025, Ruth was cited in Congressional testimony as a model for ethical, survivor-centered AI. Ruth was named a 2025 SXSW Innovation Awards Finalist.

Ruth has been mentioned in a written testimony at a Congressional briefings on responsible AI, authored policy responses to the White House AI Action Plan, and delivered keynotes to organizations like the Girl Scouts. She has been featured by UN Women (named among women in science making a difference during the pandemic), Forbes, TechCrunch, and Euronews. At AI Con 2025, she received a 9.33/10 speaker score with attendees calling her session "the most important use of AI" at the conference.

She speaks on AI liability, survivor-centered design, and building technology that minimizes legal risk and one that might actually protect lives.
