About Matt
Matt Adell is a distinguished music executive with a career deeply intertwined with some of the most iconic names in the industry. Starting at age 13, Adell embarked on his music journey working at a record store in suburban Chicago. His early career saw him rise to Vice President of Wax Trax!, an influential record label and store renowned for its pioneering role in the industrial and electronic music scenes. During this period, he signed and collaborated with groundbreaking acts such as The KLF, Derrick Carter, KMFDM, Dubtribe, Thrill Kill Kult, and Psychic TV, placing numerous releases atop the Billboard Dance Charts.
Adell's entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Organico Recordings and Little Green Management, releasing music at the very beginnings of Chicago’s House Music scene. Recognizing the potential of the internet early on, Adell was quick to innovate and adapt, leading to senior positions at Radiowave, MusicNow, and Amazon. His forward-thinking approach continued as Vice President of Music Services at Napster, where he led music programming and product initiatives.
Subsequently, he was recruited to be Chief Operating Officer and ultimately Chief Executive Officer at Beatport, the world’s largest digital music store for DJs. Adell orchestrated the sale of the company in 2013, delivering substantial shareholder value. Under his leadership, he has built companies for rapid growth and positioned them for acquisition by larger corporations.
In 2016, Adell co-founded MetaPop, a platform for remixers, and in 2017 sold MetaPop to Native Instruments, home of Traktor DJ hardware and software, Maschine Production hardware and software, and over 100 other leading products for music creators. At Native Instruments, Adell launched NI’s first web service for musicians, Sounds.com.
Matt Adell is currently the Co-Founder and COO of Musical AI, a rights management platform for artists and AI companies. Throughout his career, Adell has consistently pushed boundaries, embraced technological advancements, and nurtured the creative spirit of artists, making a profound impact on the ever-evolving music industry landscape.
