About Krishnaj
Dr. Krishnaj Gourab serves as Vice President and Medical Director for Post-Acute Care Services at the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) and as Chief Medical Officer of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute. He serves on the Governing Board of Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital and is a voluntary Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
As Medical Lead for iHarbor, the University of Maryland Medical System's innovation center, Dr. Gourab partners with data scientists and engineers to develop and deploy AI-enabled digital health solutions that address real-world clinical and operational challenges across the health system. These include patient safety and quality, optimal discharge planning, and utilization management. He also co-chairs the UMMS AI and Data Literacy Committee that promotes the responsible and safe adoption of clinical AI solutions. His current work focuses on applying natural language processing to unlock insights from free-text clinical notes, integrating them with structured data, and building systems that advance institutional clinical and operational goals.
Dr. Gourab is subspecialty board-certified in Clinical Informatics, holds a master’s degree in software engineering, and has postgraduate training in AI. He is faculty in Health Informatics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches interoperable clinical decision support. He has been an invited speaker on topics related to AI, informatics, physiatry, and post-acute care at various national forums.
