About Keith

Keith Gutfreund Head of Engineering & Systems Architecture, Kirk Tech Solutions

Keith Gutfreund is a strategic technology executive and systems architect who specializes in bridging the gap between hardware telemetry, resilient cloud architecture, and high-value, rapidly deployable enterprise AI applications. With a rare cross-domain background spanning both Electrical and Software Engineering, Keith has spent over four decades leading global technical strategies, steering large-scale engineering organizations, and securing critical intellectual property in highly regulated sectors.

Currently, as Head of Engineering and Systems Architect for Kirk Tech Solutions, Keith directs the end-to-end execution of a next-generation, cloud-connected IoT medical device platform for Sleepnet Corp. In this role, he aligns domestic software development, offshore UI/UX teams, and international hardware manufacturers to transform complex device telemetry into secure, scalable, and cost-optimized AWS serverless ecosystems.

Beyond IoT, Keith is pioneering Kirk Tech Solutions' expansion into vertical B2B markets using Flat Claw—a practical AI framework that utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs) as reasoning engines over unstructured legacy data, complex spreadsheets, and technical schematics. His work demonstrates how heavy industries, such as industrial equipment manufacturing and data center construction, can automate high-stakes estimations and unlock massive operational ROI without the multi-year runway of training foundational models from scratch.

Keith’s elite engineering pedigree includes foundational roles during the dawn of modern computing and web-scale infrastructure at Bendix Research Labs, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), and AltaVista, where he developed patented distributed collaboration and early message-passing systems. He later spent 24 years at Elsevier and RELX, serving as Senior Architect and Disruptive Technology Director for Elsevier Labs. There, he directed an information retrieval collaborative of over 600 global technologists, co-created an award-winning 3D brain navigation tool featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, and architected data privacy systems that became shared reference models across dozens of global publishers.

A former Peace Corps Volunteer and an Outstanding Graduate Student in Computer Science from Boston University, Keith balances deep technical execution with a commitment to mentoring the next generation of technical leaders.
