About Juliana
Juliana Marchand is a bilingual computational linguist, AI safety researcher, and Founder & CEO of Marchand AI, a San Diego-based AI safety and computational linguistics consultancy. Born in Peru and shaped by a lifelong passion for storytelling and language, she brings a three-pillar expertise to applied AI: multilingual computational linguistics, AI governance and safety, and narrative intelligence as an eleven-time award-winning screenwriter.
Her flagship product, Soyla Care — a proactive conversational AI companion for seniors with dementia, accepted into the NVIDIA Inception Program, AWS Startups, and Google for Startups. The governance framework powering it originated in direct caregiving experience with a family member living with Alzheimer's disease, later validated against peer-reviewed literature in dementia pragmatics, affective computing, and paralinguistic NLP.
Her professional background spans Google, Apple, Meta, and PolyAI, with over nine years of applied computational linguistics practice across AI evaluation, multilingual data quality assurance, RAG pipeline design, and system instruction architecture.
Her research paper presented at AI4 2026, "Non-Language Is Language", proposes that silence is data, tone is primary, and that grunts, pauses, and invoked memories carry meaning that AI must be designed to receive. She believes the stories we tell, and the ones we can no longer tell in words, are equally deserving of a system that knows how to listen.
