Jason Makarow is Chief of Staff to the University President and Chief AI Integration Officer at Sacred Heart University, where he leads institution-wide efforts to translate artificial intelligence into practical, responsible value across academic and administrative operations. He works closely with senior vice presidents and other administrative leaders to implement the President’s strategy and oversees the complexities of AI adoption, governance, and risk at the university’s highest levels. His work includes shaping AI governance using the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, advancing AI literacy, and coordinating cross-campus adoption. An educator as well as an administrator, Jason teaches undergraduate courses in writing and finance. His doctoral research examines how nonprofit endowments respond to economic policy uncertainty and applies traditional econometric methods and reinforcement learning to portfolio optimization. With experience leading complex university initiatives, Jason brings a multidisciplinary perspective to AI strategy, organizational change, and innovation in higher education.
