About Jason

Jason D. Baker, Ph.D., is Associate Provost and Senior Technology Strategist at Regent University, where he leads the artificial intelligence agenda. He founded the university’s AI Task Force to promote distributed AI integration across campus and co-chairs the AI Governance Committee. With a background that blends engineering, theology, and education, he equips leaders to meet the challenge of harnessing technology for human flourishing in an increasingly digital world.

Jason has been a leader in academic innovation and online learning, reaching learners often overlooked by traditional offerings. He has leveraged data as a strategic asset to inform redesign initiatives that doubled enrollment, advanced quality standards, and balanced the budget. He has launched undergraduate and graduate degree programs, built forecasting models, automated operational processes, and guided technology integration across a wide range of disciplines from business and cybersecurity to theology and law.

Jason has served as a senior systems engineer, startup founding member, technology consultant, and professor. He holds degrees in electrical engineering, educational technology, online communication, and computer and information technology. He is currently building the Institute for Technology Innovation with artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and robotics labs where students learn emerging technologies, build practical solutions, and lead ethical innovation.

He is an award-winning author whose most recent book is Leading AI Well: An Executive’s Guide to AI Strategy. He is the co-author of Distance Learning in Higher Education (Teachers College Press) and the low-cost Social Science Research Design & Statistics digital textbook, co-editor of The Student Guide to Successful Online Learning, and co-developer of the CAP Perceived Learning Scale.

Jason describes himself as an engineer who found a calling to use technology to help people while helping people use technology. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society; a Senior Member of IEEE; and a regional Community Fellow with the AI Collective. Jason is regularly invited to speak about advancing technology for good.
