About Irene
Irene Levintov, CPA, CHC, is Chief of Staff and Deputy Compliance Officer in the Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services at the University of California Office of the President. She is a senior compliance, audit, and finance executive with more than 15 years of leadership experience across higher education, government, and public accounting.
In her current role, Irene advises the Chief Compliance & Audit Officer and leads divisional strategy and operations, and enterprise compliance efforts across the University of California’s ten-campus system. Her work focuses on enterprise compliance across research security, export control, healthcare compliance, and privacy, including leading systemwide assessment and mitigation of institutional risk and coordinating stakeholders across ten campuses and six academic health centers. She also supports systemwide efforts related to responsible use and governance of artificial intelligence.
Previously, Irene served as Deputy Controller for San Mateo County, where she oversaw financial reporting for a multi-billion-dollar budget, led the County’s audit division, and advised on financial strategy for major capital programs. She also held senior roles in public accounting leading financial audits and advising organizations on governance, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
