About Hok Hei
Hok Hei Tam is Science Partner at Flagship Pioneering and Chief Technology Officer at Montai Therapeutics, where he builds AI-native discovery platforms at the intersection of machine learning, chemical biology, and human health. As co-founder and CTO of Montai, Hok Hei helped architect CONECTA®, the company’s AI platform for decoding diverse, untapped chemistry and translating it into new therapeutic programs for chronic disease, some of which are entering clinical trials. At Flagship, Hok Hei originates and builds platform companies that use artificial intelligence, machine learning, and engineering to transform nature’s innovations into products across human health, agriculture, and sustainability. His work spans AI-enabled discovery, chemical and biological engineering, informatics, and platform company creation, with a focus on turning complex biological and chemical data into actionable product engines. Hok Hei has co-founded and developed key technologies across multiple Flagship companies, including Montai Therapeutics, Invaio Sciences, Inari Agriculture, Terrana Biosciences, and Senda Biosciences, now Sail Biomedicines. Across these companies, he has helped create platforms that combine proprietary datasets, computational models, and experimental systems to discover and develop new products. His research and inventions have led to 21 patent families and 20 publications in leading journals including PNAS, Nature Materials, Nature Biotechnology, and Nature Medicine. Hok Hei earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from MIT, where his graduate research was supported by a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, and holds B.Sc. degrees in mathematics and chemical engineering from The Ohio State University.
