About Glenn
Glenn received a B.S. in mathematics from Universidad Lisandro Alvarado in Venezuela. He then earned an M.S. in applied mathematics from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela, where later he worked as an assistant professor. He also earned an M.S. degree and a Ph. D. degree in computer sciences and statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003. His main academic interests are machine learning and AI, with emphasis in mathematical optimization which is a key component of modern AI.
For more than 20 years, he has worked developing and applying novel ML techniques to solve challenging industry-related problems. Early in his professional career he worked at Siemens Medical solutions using Computer vision and machine learning on the first FDA approved Computer aided diagnosis system for lung cancer and other applications of personalized medicine. After that he joined Amazon as a principal ML scientist to work on novel applications of human-in-the-loop machine learning applied to retail and automated pricing.
His career in insurance (Casualty and Healthcare) started around 12 years ago, when he created a ML R&D team in American Family insurance whose mission was innovate by experiment with new novel applications of AI in the insurance industry. As the AVP of Data science and emerging technologies, He proposed and led the creation of the University of Wisconsin – American Family data science institute – A 10-year, 20 million dollars initiative to bridge the gap between the insurance industry and state-of-the-art academic data science research in Wisconsin.
Ather 10 years with American family insurance, He joined Liberty Mutual insurance as the head of the Solaria Applied Science team that partner with our incubation teams across the enterprise to identify opportunities to leverage AI, Gen AI and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance the customer experience and drive operational efficiencies.
More recently, before joining Exact Sciences, Glenn led the Elevance enterprise AI team through their consolidation and restructuring of their centralized AI science team with around 200 data scientist and AI engineers (onshore and offshore). The team was responsible for the exploration and assimilation of new and rapidly evolving AI techniques to enable solutions that quickly delivered significant value to the enterprise. The team delivered many transformative applications related to healthcare insurance both in government and commercial settings, including call center efficiency, information extraction, AI platform standardization, AI strategy, responsible AI among other areas.
He is an author of 100+ scientific publications and 30+ patents and he an active member of the academic AI, ML and data science community by serving as an organizer, reviewer and senior committee member of several of the top academic conferences and journals. Glenn is also an active member of several Industry and academic boards.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing bass and producing music, travelling with his wife and kids, and having fun collecting and playing trading card games.
