David Krueger is an Assistant Professor in Robust, Reasoning, and Responsible AI at the University of Montreal and Mila. He was previously an Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge, a research director at the UK AI Task Force, and an intern on DeepMind's Technical AGI Safety team. David works on reducing societal-scale risks of AI such as gradual disempowerment and human extinction. His work includes technical research as well as education, outreach, governance, and advocacy. His research spans many areas of Deep Learning and AI Safety, including alignment failure modes, algorithmic manipulation, interpretability, robustness, and understanding how AI systems learn and generalize. He has been featured in media outlets including ITV's Good Morning Britain, Al Jazeera's Inside Story, France 24, New Scientist, and the Associated Press. In 2025, David founded Evitable, a nonprofit. Evitable's mission is to inform and organize the public to confront societal-scale risks of AI, and put an end to the reckless race to develop superintelligence.
