About Cindy

Cindy Lee is the senior vice president of finance transformation for Duke Energy, where she serves as strategic advisor on enterprise finance change initiatives. Drawing from her experience as chief accounting officer, Lee spearheads efforts to advance finance transformation by standardizing and modernizing finance processes, strengthening financial governance and enhancing the efficiency, quality and transparency of financial information. Lee has a keen understanding of the significance of people and organizational change, recognizing that successful transformation hinges on engaged employees, evolving the operating model, and fostering a culture of continuous upskilling and improvement.

Previously, she served as chief accounting officer and controller for five years, overseeing the corporation’s accounting, financial reporting and internal controls. During this time, she led a significant transformation of the controllership function and managed financial reporting and governance for a complex, regulated enterprise. She also collaborated with closely with senior leadership, the Audit Committee and external auditors to maintain the integrity and quality of the company’s financial information.

Before becoming chief accounting officer in May 2021, Lee served as Duke Energy’s director of investor relations, where she was responsible for fostering relationships with industry analysts and investors, managing the quarterly earnings calls, monitoring investor market trends and developing communication materials. She also played a key role in delivering Duke Energy’s inaugural ESG Investor Day in October 2020.

Lee brings 24 years of experience in the energy industry. She joined the company in 2002 as a senior financial analyst in St. Petersburg, Fla. Prior to her role in investor relations, Lee held various leadership roles with increasing responsibility in asset accounting, financial reporting, and regulated and general accounting, including rate case support.

A native of Maryland, Lee earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., and her MBA from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. She has served as chair of the Edison Electric Institute Executive Accounting Committee and is a certified public accountant licensed in North Carolina. An alumna of Leadership Charlotte Class 41, Lee is also an executive sponsor for Duke Energy’s Leadership Development Network, supporting employee growth and organizational change.

Lee and her husband, Randy, have a daughter and live in Charlotte.
