About Christopher

Dr. Christopher K. Horne, P.E., is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University, where his teaching and research focus on artificial intelligence in engineering education, electric circuits, engineering problem solving, and emerging instructional technologies. His current research examines how students use generative AI tools to solve technical problems, how reliably large language models reason through engineering concepts, and how educators can design learning experiences that require students to verify rather than simply accept AI-generated solutions. His work includes the development and evaluation of AI-supported instructional methods for undergraduate engineering courses, including applications in algebra-based engineering problem solving, RL and RLC circuit analysis, and retrieval-augmented AI tutoring systems. Dr. Horne’s research emphasizes both the potential and limitations of generative AI. His studies address hallucinations, incorrect reasoning, overconfident responses, student verification, metacognition, and self-regulated learning. He teaches courses in electric circuits, engineering problem solving, MATLAB, and artificial intelligence applications in engineering and has presented his work at IEEE, ASEE, and other engineering education and technology conferences. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Horne is the founder and principal engineer of eMuWave, PLLC, a licensed multidisciplinary infrastructure engineering firm providing structural, MEP, fire protection, telecommunications infrastructure, forensic engineering, and expert-witness services. His combination of academic research and professional engineering practice gives him a practical perspective on the responsible use, evaluation, and verification of AI in engineering education and professional decision-making.
