About Chloé

Chloé Bakalar is the AI Ethics Lead and a Member of the Technical Staff at OpenAI, where she develops and executes an applied approach to AI Ethics across AI research, model behavior, product design, evaluation and deployment. Previously, she served as Chief Ethicist at Meta, leading ethics work across large-scale products and AI systems.

Bakalar is also a Senior Research Associate at University College London and co-author of “Positive Alignment: Artificial Intelligence for Human Flourishing.” Her work brings moral and political philosophy into direct contact with the technical and product decisions that shape AI systems, translating contested values and ethical tradeoffs into frameworks, measurements and tools that inform what companies build and ship. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
