About Caroline
Dr. Chung is Co-Director of the Institute for Data Science in Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, a tenured professor in Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging with a clinical practice in CNS malignancies and computational imaging lab. In her role as inaugural Chief Data & Analytics Officer for MD Anderson Cancer Center, she led the development of a Data Impact and Governance department, a metadata-enriched data management system called Context Engine, and institutional data and AI literacy program that has enabled collaborative data science and responsible AI adoption. Motivated by challenges observed in her own clinical and research pursuits, Dr. Chung has developed and leads institutional, national, and global efforts to enable quantitative measurements to realize precision and personalized medicine through clinically impactful utilization of data, AI and data science. Her international leadership roles include founding co-president of the Quantitative Medical Imaging Coalition (QMIC), Co-Chair of the Quantitative Imaging for Assessment of Response in Oncology Committee of the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU), Co-chair and Champion of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) AI Community of Practice and Co-Chair of the recent NCI workshop on AI benchmarking. Additionally, she served as the biomedical lead for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM)-appointed committee addressing Foundational Research Gaps and Future Directions for Digital Twins.
