About Arjun
Arjun Chembai Ramachandran is a Founding Robotics Engineer at Moby Robotics, where he leads the Ocean Intelligence Platform team. With expertise spanning full-stack software architecture, computer vision, and hands-on hardware prototyping, he acts as a core technical driver for next-generation subsea crawler and robotic gripper platforms engineered for the sustainable blue economy.
At Moby Robotics, Arjun spearheads the development of deep-sea computer vision pipelines, ocean mapping stacks, and 3D seabed reconstruction models that translate raw maritime data into actionable intelligence. His dual-hatted role includes architecting complete software frameworks for ground control and subsea autonomy, while simultaneously designing and fabricating physical hardware systems, electronics, and custom tactile controllers for complex ROV operations.
Prior to pioneering deep-sea robotic systems, Arjun engineered scalable generative AI and risk infrastructure as a Software Engineer 2 at PayPal. His extensive research portfolio includes deploying real-time, risk-aware autonomous navigation systems at the University of Michigan’s Mcity, developing reinforcement learning controllers for advanced prosthetic devices, and designing underactuated embedded systems for aerial manipulation. He holds a Master of Science in Robotics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has authored published research alongside a patent for a flexible manipulator.
