About Amber
Amber L. Rowland, Ph.D., is an Associate Research Professor at the University of Kansas. She is a strategic education leader with over 23 years of experience in cross-functional collaboration, product development, and research-based evaluation of innovative practices. Backed by more than $10 million in funding from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Special Education Programs, and the Institute of Education Sciences, her work explores artificial intelligence, extended reality, progress monitoring, game-based learning, and universal design for learning to support all learners, especially those with disabilities.
Dr. Rowland specializes in user-centered design and in developing evidence-based professional learning experiences. She is the CSO and co-founder of VOISS, an extended reality environment that teaches adolescents social skills through evidence-based practice, using valid and reliable summative and formative progress-monitoring tools. She also co-developed VECTOR, a virtual coaching model; co-designed APLM Online, an online coaching dashboard; and developed WRITE, one of the first auto-scoring writing tools for adolescents.
She is a trusted advisor and coach who builds strong relationships, leads diverse teams, and develops tailored solutions to meet individual and systemic needs. A published author with over 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 150+ conference presentations, she brings extensive experience in research, development, and teaching in education. Her contributions have been recognized by organizations such as ISTE, CEC, NSF, and the U.S. Department of Education.
