About Aaron
Aaron Tate is a technologist and applied AI researcher at the Center for BrainHealth at the University of Texas at Dallas, where his work sits at the intersection of neuroscience, game development, wearable technology, and AI-driven behavioral coaching.
His research began with integrating biosensors into interactive interfaces, an early thread that runs through everything he builds today. The BrainHealth platform integrates wearable data from devices like the Oura ring with ML-powered cognitive assessment, automating scoring across 22 measures and achieving inter-rater reliability with clinical gold standards. The ACCESS scoring system, now in active commercial use by an external partner, was a major milestone in translating clinical research into production AI. The BrainHealth Agent is currently in active development, applying large language models to personalized cognitive health guidance with the goal of delivering AI coaching at scale.
On the social intelligence side, Charisma is a game-based platform built in Unreal Engine that uses AI to evaluate and coach social competencies in immersive virtual environments. The system analyzes real-time behavioral signals to deliver feedback on social cognition, a research area with implications for clinical populations, workforce development, and human-AI interaction. Charisma shipped two Unreal Engine upgrades, a full cloud migration, and a new avatar system in 2025.
Aaron holds several pending patents covering AI-driven interfaces, deep learning for social competency evaluation in immersive environments, and recursive database systems. He has co-authored 7+ peer-reviewed publications and presented at SXSW, IVRHA, and ECGBL. He is a 2025 Global Innovation Management Institute Finalist, 2021 Fast Company Innovation by Design Finalist, Oculus Launch Pad Fellow, and Epic Games MegaGrant recipient.
