When Everyone Can Build: Securing Healthcare in the Age of AI

· Marcello Ballroom 4403

About this session

Artificial intelligence has dramatically lowered the barriers to building useful software, empowering clinicians and other domain experts to solve problems that once required specialized technical expertise and dedicated development teams. Drawing on my experience building and governing healthcare software and AI tools before and after the rise of coding agents, I will explore how this transformation changed the way I think about innovation, cybersecurity, and organizational risk. The talk will explore how the AI era challenges the traditional assumption that innovation and cybersecurity must compete with one another. Rather than preventing clinicians and other domain experts from building, healthcare organizations have an opportunity to create pathways where new ideas are encouraged, safely evaluated, and responsibly integrated into patient care. Through practical examples, attendees will learn practical principles for balancing innovation with governance, cybersecurity, and patient safety without creating unnecessary barriers to progress. The goal is not to slow the next generation of builders, but to create healthcare organizations where innovation and security can succeed together.
