Edge-First AI: Mission Critical Intelligence Without Mega Scale Compute
About this session
I will challenge the assumption that mission-critical AI demands planet-melting data centres and show how intelligent agents can operate securely and reliably at the edge. In a world of constrained bandwidth, contested environments, and tight power budgets, pushing AI closer to where decisions are made is not just efficient; it is often essential. I will walk through example implementations developed within cortAIx - Thales' global accelerator for AI, showing how we deploy AI agents on edge platforms across defence, transportation, and critical infrastructure, while preserving robustness, security, and human-on-the-loop control. Attendees will learn practical approaches for combining small, specialised models with system-level autonomy, as well as strategies for validation, monitoring, and fail-safe behaviour in the field. The talk will equip you with a blueprint to move from cloud-only prototypes to trustworthy edge deployments that respect operational constraints and environmental impact, and will show how to make AI both mission-ready and responsible.
