AI Harm Is Everyone's Business: Why Every Industry Needs to Understand Where Its Responsibility Begins

About this session

Every product has a supply chain, and it turns out harm has one too. When AI is used to cause harm, it moves through a chain of companies: one builds the tool, one hosts it, one sells it, one processes the payment, one's platform spreads it, and someone far downstream responds to the damage. This talk maps that chain using one of the clearest and most urgent examples available: AI-generated child sexual abuse material. I serve as Technology and Innovation Lead at Zero Abuse Project, a national child protection nonprofit, where I develop AI training for the investigators, prosecutors, and child protection professionals who respond at the end of that chain. In my field we say that child abuse prevention is everyone's business, and this session extends that same principle to AI: attendees will learn a practical framework for locating their organization's link on any chain of AI harm, plus three questions to bring back to their leadership. Whatever your industry, your organization sits somewhere on one of these chains. This session will help you find your link and understand what responsibility looks like there.
